Elektor Project: Cracle-free volume control.
I'm sorry, but I cannot support the other languages in which Elektor is published. You may write e-mail to me in German, but I'll answer in English or Dutch to your choice.
This Elektor project was originated by me, Jan Breemer, and published in the electronics hobby magazine Elektor, issue April 2008.
Here you will find information about how to order kits or parts.
There are several options, regarding the available power supply voltages and your preferences about control ranges, and whether you will purchase or provide certain components yourself.
Orders
can only be placed by email.
Follow these steps:
Download the OrderForm as a Word document or as plain text (suitable for any text editor).
Fill in all required items.
Attach it to an email and send it to the email address on the form
Wait until I respond. If it takes more than 2 weeks you may re-send your orderform. (but I do plan some vacation this year and that may last more than 1 week)
If I accept your order I'll provide you with the payment information, including a payment code, and an indication of the delivery time.
You pay according to the instructions and accompanied by the payment code I gave you.
When your payment has arrived I'll confirm that to you by email.
If any part of your order has a lead time over say two weeks I'll inform you asap.
When
I have completed your order I'll ship it and I'll notify you that it has
been shipped.
- I'll ship by Dutch Post only (TNT). No tracking information will be available.
No insurance will be incorporated. Shipment is on your risk.
When ordering you must provide one or 2 option numbers and one option letter
This table differs somewhat from the table in the Elektor article
| Option Number |
Power Supply Options | IC's included | Price € |
Remark |
| 1 * | Complete kit. More than + and - 10 Volts but not more than + and - 15 Volts |
Low power versions of the
regulators 78L05, 79L05 |
34 | |
| 2 * | Complete kit. More than + and - 15 Volts but less than + and - 30 Volts |
TO220 versions of the regulators 7805, 7905 |
34 | |
| 3 * | Complete kit. More than + and - 30 Volts |
Like option 2 | 34 | You will have to reduce the supply voltages yourself |
| 4 * | Complete kit. Only + 10 to 30 Volts |
TO220 version of 7805, MAX 660 | 38 | |
| 5 * | Complete kit. Only positive, but more than 30 Volts |
Like option 4 | 38 | You will have to reduce the supply voltage yourself |
| 6 | Complete kit as 1 through 5 but: | No PGA2311 | -16 | If you can obtain it as a free sample |
| 7 | Bare PCB | none | 6 | You will have to
buy/provide all components yourself. Be aware that IC 1, 2 and 3 can be obtained as free samples form their respective manufacturers. |
| 8 * | Programmed microprocessor | IC 1 | 4 | |
| 9 * | (re) programming of a microprocessor supplied by you. | You must supply a microprocessor chip | 2 | Orders are only accepted if you
supply your chip(s) in/with a reusable ESD-safe return enveloppe with a
written or printed return address. I regard aluminium foil as ESD-safe. |
* For these options you must provide the programming options as outlined below.
Programming options.
You can
order a processor with programming options concerning the lowest and highest
gain. That is the gain at the endpoints of your physical potmeter.
The balance potmeter option specifies the decrease of gain at the ends of the
balance potmeter.
Note that rotating the balance potmeter out of the center position, to left or right, the gain of that channel will stay unchanged, while the gain of the other channel is decreased.
| Option letter | Lowest gain | Highest gain | Attenuation of balance control | Remark |
| A | -50 dB | 0 dB | -10 dB | This is my recommendandation which will work for most situations where a physical logarithmic potmeter is replaced by this design. |
| B | Fill in lowest gain in dB | Fill in highest gain in dB | Fill in the maximal attenuation of the balance potmeter Fill in zero if you plan not to use the balance potmeter |
You must fill in your specification of the lowest and highest gain required. and the range of the balance potmeter |
| C | n.a. | n.a. | n.a. | I will program the microprocessor myself. |
I am just a private person so there are only a few ways to pay me.
You should not pay me anything unless I have
accepted and confirmed your order with your payment preference. My confirmation
will include a payment code. Use this code in your payment comment.
Do not send payments in advance without the code provided by me. I will be glad,
but you will not get back anything.
If you want to send or request additional information about your order, always
include the order code in your e-mail.
You can pay me:
Per bank. Transfer the amount to my Dutch bank account. I will provide you with the details in my acceptance email.
Per
post. Enclose the amount of Euro's (up-rounded to paper value, that
means multiples of € 5,=, no coins) in an enveloppe addressed to me. I
cannot accept other currency. I will provide you with the physical address
to send the money to in my acceptance-email.
Note: In many countries it is illegal to send (paper) money by post
(Probably that is to prevent the postman against him/herself). Practise is
that it works if you use an enveloppe which hides the content, and most
enveloppes do.
Per PayPal. If you choose for this option you may get an email from PayPal to pay the amount or you will receive an email from me with a clickable link to the PayPal site. You can then use your bank account or any of the most popular creditcards to pay.
Simply
said: I promise to provide you with the goods you ordered and payed for,
according to your specifications, as best as I can, but any guarantee ends at my
doorstep.
I have to deal with delivery times of my suppliers. These can vary from a few days to months. Where possible I will inform you about delivery times and delays.
When I have sent any item to you by Dutch Post it is up to them to deliver it properly. If you do'nt get it or get it in bad shape it's YOU who has the bad luck. You cannot blame me or keep me responsible.
I can and will only communicate in Dutch or in English. You may ask me questions in German, but I will answer in English or Dutch, at your choice..
